FILET 13-30th May 2021 ALIX MARIE & YUSHI LI Postures & Posers Building on Marianne Wex’s encyclopedic project Let’s Take Back Our Space: ‘Female’ and ‘Male’ Body Language as a Result of Patriarchal Structures, Alix Marie’s & Yushi Li’s photographic works come together to further provoke the binary. These postures do not sit within a linear catalogue of the gaze but rather create alternative ways of being and looking until we are not quite sure who is doing the posing. Yushi Li appropriates the authority of art-history to highlight constructs at play whilst Alix Marie investigates new fluid structures that have their own powerful body language within them.
